A Chinese temple stood quietly on a trashy street in Bangkok's Chinatown. I entered the temple grounds to get away from the hustle and bustle. The temple grounds were quiet, as if the bustle of Chinatown was a lie. I thought that silence would suit the temple well, but the temple was under construction. Scaffolding had been erected and workers were quietly at work. Having come here to escape the bustle, but not being able to find it, I quickly decided to go outside.
When I came back to the gate of the temple, I found a woman with a cap sitting on a chair. She must have been there when I entered, but I did not notice her at the time. She had a bowl on her lap and was chopping the food with a pair of scissors in her hand. The bowl was full of cut ingredients.
The woman who was continuing this simple task did not look very happy and seemed to be tired. Was she tired from opening and closing the scissors? If so, she might as well stop using scissors and use a knife. The woman did not even give me a second glance as I was thinking about this, and continued to silently cut up the pieces.
