Across the crowd, Agnes Chow was giving me a strong-willed look

The Setagaya Art Museum was crowded. Generally, I have the impression that fewer people visit exhibitions of photographs than exhibitions of paintings, but this may be due to the name recognition of the artists. In the world, many painters are more famous than photographers. In this context, photographer Shinya Fujiwara, whose exhibition was held on the day, is more famous than most painters. He is the author of several books.

Although one gets the impression that Shinya Fujiwara is a photographer who wanders around South Asia, including India, the photographs on display at this exhibition were not all taken in India. There were also many photographs taken in other countries, including China and the United States, as well as some taken in Japan. The photographs of his own father were particularly impressive, to the point of being considered the highlight of the exhibition. In photographs of celebrities or travel photos, the photographer seems to have control over what is captured in the photo, but in the case of family photos, the relationship between the photographer and the subject is so intertwined that control is difficult to achieve. The result is what we call an "autobiographical photograph." However, the photograph of the father taken by Shinya Fujiwara seemed to be well controlled.
