There were several Songtaew buses parked on the side of the road. Songtaew is a passenger vehicle that you see in Thailand. They are like the jumbos you see in Laos. The alley I was walking along in Bangkok seemed to be a terminal for the vehicles, and there were many Songtaew stopping there. However, there were no buildings in this alley that could be called a terminal building. There were just several Songtaew parked on the side of the road, waiting for the departure time to come. It was not clear where to buy a ticket, and since there was no destination written on the vehicles, it was not clear to the passing traveler where they were going. It probably connects the suburban rural areas to the center of Bangkok.
The luggage carrier in this photo was one of the Songtaew parked there. Songtaew is a truck that has been remodeled for passenger use, so people ride on the back of the truck. The word "songtaew" means "two rows" in Thai, and is said to be so-called because of the seats facing each other on the back of the truck, but the songtaew in this photo had a large load taking up most of the back of the truck, so the seats facing each other were not in use. Some women were sitting on the edge of the luggage carrier as if they were extras.
The women sat on the edge of the luggage and waited patiently for the songtaew to depart. The large bags in the back were probably goods that the women had purchased in Bangkok. They were on their way back to their home town after purchasing a large number of goods.
