After wandering around Siam Square, Bangkok's downtown area, I decided to return to my lodgings in the Royal Palace area, but there was a small problem. I had walked from the hotel to this place, but it would have taken about an hour even if I had walked at a brisk pace without making any detours. I was a little tired to walk back under the blazing sun. However, I didn't feel like taking a cab. I had no idea how long it would take if I took a cab in the center of Bangkok where the evening traffic jam had started.
I stared at the map and wondered how I would get home. Then I noticed a water bus stop nearby that runs along the Khlong Saen Saep. The water bus would take me much closer to my lodgings. I realized this and hurriedly headed for Pratunam pier.
There was a constant stream of water buses coming to the pier, which was tucked away in a busy corner of town. There were many passengers on each of the water buses, and as soon as they landed, many of them disembarked from their boats at once. Some of them were in a hurry, and I even saw a woman who had lost her balance a little.
