Although Taipei in the north and Kaohsiung in the south are about 350 kilometers apart, they can be reached in as little as 90 minutes by taking the High Speed Rail. The distance between Kaohsiung and Taipei is about the same as between Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan, so it is possible to spend the morning in Kaohsiung and the afternoon in Taipei. I also moved to Taipei in the afternoon to prepare for my flight to Japan. People in Kaohsiung said that Taipei is more urban and noisy, but it is true that there are many more people walking on the streets in Taipei.
Since I have been to Taipei several times, there are some stores and places that I like, but basically the things to do and places to visit are the same as when I was in Kaohsiung. In Taipei, I still go to the local markets and look at what is being sold while mingling with the locals. I could say that I was not paying enough attention, but I could not tell if there was any difference between what was sold in the markets in Kaohsiung and Taipei. The same vegetables were lined up in rows, and the same meat was hanging in the same way. The same meat, which appeared to have just been slaughtered, was displayed haphazardly in a place without air-conditioning.
