The man with the mustache was a butcher. With a knife in his hand, he was working in a small store in Rangpur. Large pieces of meat hung from the eaves. This kind of butcher shop is not uncommon in this area. There are no refrigeration facilities, and the style of haphazardly displaying meat on the store floor is common in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal.
When I approached the man and asked if I could take his photo, he stopped cutting the meat for a moment and took a glance at my camera. He had a rather cumbersome expression on his face. I wouldn't be surprised if he thought he had caught the attention of a strange person. Freshly processed meat was laid out around the man, and flies were flying around him. In the man's mind, I must be just as troublesome to deal with as the flies flying around. If that was the case, I felt like I ranked higher than the flies just because I wasn't chased away.
