There are many Buddhist temples in Luang Prabang, which is also registered as a World Heritage Site. Unlike Japan, the mainstream of Buddhism in Laos is Theravada Buddhism, so there are many monks in each temple, and you can see many monks walking around the city.
There were also monks in the precincts of Wat Mai when I arrived. A young monk was standing at the entrance. He was leaning on his elbow and looking at Sisavang Vong street, the main street of this city. There were many travelers strolling along the street. I wondered what the foreign tourists looked like in the eyes of the monks who were leading a traditional ascetic life.
