Finally, I arrived at a building that appeared to be a monastery. In Myanmar, there are many people who believe in Buddhism, and Buddhism is deeply rooted in their daily lives. Unlike Japan, Theravada Buddhism is the mainstream, so many people are ordained, and it is not unusual to see monks in town. Even if not ordained, visiting temples is a part of people's lives. Here, all temples have their doors wide open, waiting for worshippers to come and visit. However, the situation is a bit different in monasteries. Monasteries are not places of worship, but simply places where monks live. The gate of this monastery was also closed.
To be precise, the gate was slightly open, but I did not dare to enter the monastery, where not a single visitor could be seen, surrounded by silence. I stood still in front of the gate. After a while, a young monk appeared behind the gate decorated with peacocks. When he noticed me, he stopped and smiled at me.
