Barefoot Buddhist monks dressed in kasaya were marching in single file. Every one of them was carrying a large bowl as they walked. They were begging for alms, a regular event in Luang Prabang every morning. Walking in a line is part of the ascetic practice. The monks walked silently without saying a word.

They came without a sound of footsteps, and when they stopped in front of a person kneeling on the roadside, they silently received alms. Despite the large number of monks strolling through the town at this time of day, the streets remained enveloped in the silence of the morning. The practice is carried out solemnly.
