The people working at the Mae Klong Railway Market were all relaxed. The man in the photo was one of those working leisurely. He was in the middle of leisurely opening a tray of chili peppers from a plastic bag in his hand. The man working with a cigarette in his mouth seemed to be enjoying himself. I could almost hear him humming as I watched him. Meanwhile, the chili peppers were piling up on the tray. I guess the man is going to put them on display at the store.
In Thailand, as in other countries, the environment around cigarettes is becoming tougher. Smoking is not allowed in walled-off spaces. Not only in hotels but also in restaurants. In convenience stores, cigarettes are sold, but the shelves are covered so that shoppers cannot see them. When you order cigarettes at the cash register, they open the covers and show you the cigarettes. I was unaware of this and initially assumed that convenience stores in Bangkok did not sell cigarettes. Considering this situation, it may not be long before smoking is banned in all of Thailand.
