Many of the locals visiting the market to shop were walking around with similar shopping baskets. But the basket carried by the man in the photo was a little different from the others. It was so large that I thought he was going to go bush-cutting in the mountains.
The man wearing a tank top and longyi was carrying a large basket over his shoulder. He did not seem to be here to buy groceries, as he did not pay attention to the grocery stores lined up on either side of the aisle. If he brought the basket to buy groceries, it is too big. It is hard to imagine a large family buying several days' worth of groceries at once, especially in an area where refrigerators are not widely available. The man must have been there to deliver something.
The basket he was carrying looked light, so I guessed that he had finished his delivery to some store and was leaving the market. While I was thinking about that, the man walked past me in a flash and went off somewhere.
