Across from Wat Pho is a market for locals. It is Tha Tien Market. If there is a market, I must visit it. Driven by a sense of obligation that I did not quite understand, I left Wat Pho, crossed the street, and entered the market.
The market was crowded with stores, but it was deserted. There was no sense of bustle and bustle. It is right next to Wat Pho, one of Bangkok's most famous tourist attractions, and close to the Royal Palace, but there were hardly any tourists. At best, it is calm and at worst, lonely.
I walked through the dimly lit aisles, looking at the items on display in the stores. Not much fresh food is sold here. Many stores sell dry goods. Perhaps that is why the place is not crowded with shoppers.
In the meantime, a young girl walks up from the other side of the aisle. She looked reluctant and seemed to be thinking about something, mumbling to herself as she walked. The market was quiet, so I could clearly hear the girl talking to herself. But I couldn't make out what she was talking about.
