Like all stupas, the Mahazedi Pagoda is huge. The people who built Bago, with its many huge pagodas and Buddha statues, must have believed that big is good. Moreover, since there are no large buildings in the town, the golden stupa stretching toward the sky comes into view even from a distance, giving it an overwhelming sense of presence. Looking at the stupas glistening in the sunlight, one feels as if one is accumulating virtues just by looking at them. With stupas everywhere in this town, it is no wonder that Buddhist beliefs are widely spread in the area.
The Mahazedi Pagoda in the photo is also a stupa, so it is assumed that the remains of Buddha's teeth, are stored inside. However, considering the countless number of stupas in the world, one wonders how many Buddha's teeth there are in the world. The number of permanent teeth is said to be 32, but it is inevitable that the number of Buddha's teeth in the world would be more than that. It is possible, however, that the Buddha was an extraordinary person and had a much larger number of permanent teeth than ordinary people.
