At Wat Saket in Bangkok, with the golden stupa at the top, there are other places to pray. There is also a facility inside the man-made hill. In what seems to be the middle of the hill, there is a golden Buddha statue enshrined. At the end of a corridor covered with white walls is that statue. Although this place was small, there was a constant stream of worshippers. Maybe this Buddha statue was more popular with the locals than the stupa, not to mention the view from the top.
While I was looking at the Buddha statue, the next worshipper came. It was a woman in mourning clothes. She sat down in front of the statue and bowed with her head on the ground. Then she kept her posture for a while. In Japan, when people visit a temple, people don't take off our shoes and go up to the main hall. They just stand in front of the main hall, throw a money offering into the temple and join hands. When I saw such local Thai people, I was impressed that Thai people are really pious.
