From the Royal Palace in Bangkok to Wat Pho is so close that you can reach it while wandering around. It had been 19 years since I had been to this temple. It was so long ago that I do not remember much about my previous visit. All I remember is that there was a huge Reclining Buddha inside the temple, lying down in a cramped position.
I paid the entrance fee and headed for the hall. When I stepped inside, there was a huge golden Reclining Buddha lying there, just as it was 19 years ago. I am not sure which is to blame: the building is too small or the Reclining Buddha is too big, but the Reclining Buddha was lying in the same cramped position as it was 19 years ago.
The reason why the Reclining Buddha is placed in a narrow space is because it is not good for the precious Buddha to be exposed to the wind and rain, so a roof must have been installed later. The Reclining Buddha stood straight like a gymnast with his legs outstretched. When I came to the end of the hall, I could see the soles of his feet. The soles of his feet were decorated with mandalas, and the fingerprints of his toes were also decorated with glittering ornaments.
