Shot at Wat Trimit, a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand.
The hall in which a golden Buddha statue is stationed is built on the top of the hall. So worshippers climbed the hill after buying a ticket on the ground level. The hall was small and a golden statue was sitting majestically in the center of it. Standing in front of the hall, I could see the statue from the outside.
Although this Buddha statue which weighs 5.5 tonnes is nothing special than other Buddha statues in Bangkok, it is mysterious. It is believed that this statue was made during the Sukothai period. Yet no one knows who made this statue nor when it was made. And it had been plastered over to prevent it from being stolen until 1953.
When the statue was lifted from its pedestal to be moved from another Buddhist temple, the ropes broke and it fell hard on the ground. The plaster coating was broken and the golden surface has appeared surprisingly.
Now the golden Buddha statue becomes one of the famous statues in this city. And many worshippers come to this temple to pray.
