When I got out of the side street and onto the main street, I saw many people walking on the sidewalk. This area is the center of Yangon and a busy downtown area. The boulevard was bustling with people. I stopped on the sidewalk and watched the people coming and going on the sidewalk without doing anything. In the meantime, a group of girls dressed in bright pink appeared. They were young Buddhist nuns. Myanmar has a large Buddhist population, and Theravada Buddhism is the mainstream, and both boys and girls are ordained in the same way. Ordained girls wear pretty pink robes.
I saw a group of young nuns on the main street where I was walking earlier, so I guessed that it was time for begging for alms. These girls seemed to be in the middle of begging for alms. Walking downtown to beg for alms is part of the training for ordained girls. Perhaps that is why. The expressions on the faces of the girls walking side by side did not look happy. Perhaps they really want to walk around downtown without any restrictions. No matter how much virtue they can accumulate by begging for alms, if they are forced to walk around, it will no longer be enjoyable.
