A Buddhist monk was standing at the gate of Kogan-Ji temple in Sugamo. He was wearing a kasaya and a conical hat. His face was not recognizable because he was wearing his conical hat so deeply. He was begging for alms while standing in front of the gate.

Most of the visitors walked past the monk, but some of them stopped in front of him. The older woman in this photo was one of them. She came up to the monk and started to talk to him. Then the monk quickly put out his hand and began to stroke the baby's head. The baby was being stroked and looked very happy. It was a gesture that sounded like it would be a blessing in disguise.
