Baby Being Stroked Its Head

Monk stroking head

The baby was stroked its head by the monk

Shot at Kogan-Ji, a Buddhist temple in Sugamo, Tokyo.

A Buddhist monk was standing at the entrance of the temple. He wore a kasaya and a conical hat. So I couldn't see his face. He was going about asking for alms there. Most of the worshipers came to this temple went past the monk.

Yet some people stopped to talk to him. The older woman in this photo was one of them. She held her little grandbaby in her arms. When she approached the monk, the monk extended his hand. And he started to stroke the baby's head gently. The baby seemed happy during being stroked.
