When did it all start? When did I start paying attention to the ratings of restaurants listed on the Internet when eating out? In the past, restaurant ratings were mostly based on word of mouth from acquaintances. The only information we could get was that the restaurant had been featured on TV or in a magazine. We entered restaurants based on what little information we had. Now we find ourselves reading reviews on gourmet food websites and Google Maps from people we don't even know. The sites are filled with information in the form of evaluations, and much of this information would not be available to us without the Internet. It has become convenient. But while it has become more convenient, I can't help but feel that we have lost some things.
For example, how to judge whether a restaurant is good or bad other than by word of mouth. Until the Internet became widespread, store fixtures were also a factor in judging the quality of a restaurant, but nowadays we can immediately look at word of mouth on the Internet, so the opportunities to use this method have decreased drastically. If we don't use the Internet, the world will degenerate rapidly, and the accuracy of such information must be declining. The same is true when I go for a walk. I feel that my sense of direction becomes dull if I have my smartphone guiding my route in real-time all time. But I use it because it is convenient.
