The person in charge of the fish shop seemed to be a meticulous person. All the fish on the counter were laid out with their tails facing the aisle. The fish on the tray and the fish directly on the counter were all arranged in the same way, with the heads facing the inside of the store.
Although they were arranged, there was no ice under the fish. There were no refrigeration facilities here either. This fish shop in the market did not seem to be a client of the ice seller I had seen in Cirebon before. I wish I could tell him that he could come here to find new customers.
In any case, the fish must get damaged quickly if they are just laid out on the counter. It's not only the fishmongers that don't refrigerate their food here, but also the butchers. Their motto is to sell out as quickly as possible, not to refrigerate food to keep it fresh. Given this, I guessed that they were planning to sell all the fish on the counter by the end of the day. There wasn't a single person in sight at the moment, but there were going to be a lot of customers coming to buy fish. The woman behind the counter was busy working left and right in preparation for the coming busy season.
