When I left the monotone meat and fish market, I found myself in a vivid place. There were yellow bananas for sale, light blue shopping baskets, and an older woman in a pink hijab working. And best of all, there was a blue sky above me.

The Kanoman Market in Cirebon, Java has a large building with most of the stores inside. However, there were some stores outside the building that use plastic sheets as a roof for their business. I came to a section of the building where such stores were lined up.

While the inside of the building was dimly lit, probably to save on electricity, the area covered with plastic sheets was bathed in brilliant sunlight. It felt good. Even through the plastic sheeting, the sunlight that crept into the store made the food on display, the equipment, and the people working there look alive.

The older woman in the pink hijab on the left of this photo was also happily working. However, the man on the right in this photo, who had just came out of the building and was walking barefoot, looked uncomfortable. It must be because he has not been exposed to enough sunlight to be lively and active.
