The young iceman was crushing large blocks of ice in a plastic bag by the roadside

I was going down the main street called Jalan Siliwangi in Cirebon. There was a large shopping mall on the way, but it didn't seem like the center of the city. The inside of the mall was not particularly crowded, nor was the surrounding area. There were just a few Becak parked along the street, waiting for shoppers.

A bicycle that was not a Becak was also parked among them. On the back of the bike was a large black plastic bag. A young man with a cap was standing beside it, trying to get something out of the bag. I was a little excited to see what would come out, but what came out was a big block of ice. The man was an iceman.

Even though it was January, it was quite hot in Java. The iceman put the ice in a plastic bag and carried it to the customer, not in a truck with a refrigeration unit or in a Styrofoam bag to prevent the heat from spreading. I felt that a large part of the ice would melt before it was delivered to the customer, but I wondered if this was a normal practice around here. I'm not sure. By the way, the ice seller I saw in Mexico City was also carrying ice directly on the back of a bicycle.
