I passed by a butcher during walking around the market. Many pieces of pork were set out in the storefront and some legs of pigs were hung from the ceiling. And a chubby man worked at the counter. He was shirtless and cut the pork into pieces with a knife in his hand. A Phra Kruang, a kind of amulet was seen on his chest. Because he noticed me holding my gear, he worked while breaking into a smile.
It is said that Thai people preferred to eat pork much than beef, for it is believed that the father of the Buddhist deity of mercy is born again as a cow. So they hesitate to eat beef.
