The name of the old market in Kolkata was New Market. It was opened in 1874, so it has been around for quite some time. It was originally built for the British who did not want to shop with the local Indians in the local market.
The New Market is now a normal market where not only the British, who were the rulers, but also the local Indians come to shop. The photo shows a chicken shop in the market. There were still live chickens in the net in front of me. You can see a large chicken crown. It looks like they are selling live chickens.
