After the Meiji Restoration, Japan tried to increase its national power by inviting hired foreigners to catch up with Western civilisation. As a result, much of the latest technology of the time entered Japan. As civilisation does not consist solely of science and technology, Western art gradually entered Japan along with the influx of technology. Wealthy families bought up Western art. The Ohara Museum of Art exhibits the art collected by such wealthy people and displays the collection of Magosaburo Ohara, who laid the foundations of Kurabo and Kuraray. It is said to be the first museum in Japan to display western and modern art.
Yellow lotus flowers were blooming in the garden on the grounds. The collections of this museum are magnificent, but the beauty of the flowers in the garden seemed to be no less beautiful.
