For the first time, I decided to enter the Tsukiji inner market where the auction was to take place. But alas. It was a weekend, so the inner market was deserted. There were no auctions today, and the brokers were closed. Walking along the main aisle, I did not see many people working. The main aisle, which would be crowded on a weekday, was deserted.
Sunlight was streaming in through the skylights, and there were piles of bright white Styrofoam boxes by the walls of the aisle. It was a Sunday when I realized that one must come early in the morning on a weekday to enjoy the atmosphere of a bustling market.
