A large group of fishermen was standing on the edge of the surf at Beruwala. Every fisherman held a seine in his hand. They were in the middle of seine fishing, working together. Sri Lanka is an island country. Fish is often on the table.
In the religion that originated in India, the principle of non-violence, called ahimsa, is an important tenet. The same is true of Buddhism, although it is rarely recognized in Japan. Therefore, even in Sri Lanka, where Buddhists are in the majority, many fishermen who kill fish are Christians.
