I was walking through a small collection of galleries in Jakarta's Sawah Besar district. Even though it was a gallery, it didn't have an upscale atmosphere at all. It was a small gallery quietly lined up beside the sidewalk, run by the painter himself.
Many of the artists here seemed to be painting portraits on commission, rather than making their own work. However, it seemed that they didn't receive many orders for portraits, so everyone didn't seem to be busy. There was a big street in front of them, but there were not many cars, and both the galleries and the street were quiet.
In this atmosphere, both the paintings and the artist were wrapped up in the gallery, and the cats that call this area home seem to be carefree with the passage of time. Well, cats are laid back wherever they are, so the atmosphere of the surrounding area may not matter much. Anyway, two cats were lounging in the shade at the end of a sidewalk lined with galleries.
One was leaning against the wall, looking sleepy, and the other was staring up at the top of a street tree. Was it a bug of some sort? It was still staring, so maybe there was something in the tree that would trigger the destruction of this long, quiet atmosphere.
