I was walking through the town of Batu Pahat, where a Japanese club existed 100 years ago and where the poet Mitsuharu Kaneko stayed. If you didn't know anything about it, you wouldn't know that many Japanese once lived here. There is nothing left behind that can be seen just by walking around.
There was a cat at the bottom of the steps of the arcade-like sidewalk. It was stretching its neck a bit as it watched the people passing by. I couldn't believe that danger was waiting for it in this tranquil corner of town. It seemed to be a very cautious cat.
It was as if the cat had decided not to set foot on the sidewalk as long as there were people walking by. When it saw someone, it would shrink its outstretched neck. However, it didn't pay attention to me standing right behind it. Maybe it just didn't notice me, but I felt that it was a bit lax.
