Tables and chairs were placed among the trees. This is a sidewalk on a road that stretches into the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok. It was supposed to be a public space, but it had the atmosphere of someone's living room. Except for the lack of a roof, this might be a surprisingly comfortable place to spend time.
I knew immediately where the owner of this living room was. The owner must be the one who was sleeping soundly in the hammock hanging between the trees. Whether a car was passing by or a pedestrian like me was passing by, the man was lying down and breathing comfortably without paying attention. He seemed to have reached the point where he no longer cared about the noise around him. Otherwise, he would not be able to sleep comfortably on a corner of the sidewalk.
But it is not only noise that disturbs the comfortable space. Even the rain must get in the way. And when it does, the man will wake up, as he should. But since the man sleeps soundly on the sidewalk, he may not mind the rain soaking the household goods he has deployed on the street.
