I saw many tourists from China in Bangkok and Mae Klong. Yet they didn't come to this Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in big numbers. Overall, the number of tourists here was not so high. Although I couldn't feel the bustling of the local market, it became a nice place to spend some quiet hours.
The situation was good for tourists like me. Yet it was not going to work that way for local people. According to the official site of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, this market was built for cultural conservation and tourism. So it was not built for local people to buy foodstuffs every day. Therefore, it was an issue of critical importance that there were not many tourists here for people working in this market.
The shopkeepers in this photo also seemed to have nothing to do. Their boats were docked on the deserted side of the canal. One just sat on his boat distantly and the other drunk a beverage on his boat.
