The tranquil atmosphere wafted in the floating market in Damnoen Saduak. The canal in which the market was held stretched straight in the center. And it was flanked by many shops. The place was well-groomed. Watching from the bridge, I felt as if I watched a competition site for boat races.
There were some wooden boats on the edge of the canal. The local people on the boats seemed to have time to spare. They just rocked in the water. They never gave the slightest indication of moving as if they dropped anchor.
Looking closer at one of the boats, two persons sat and a big pot was placed between them. This boat was a food stall traveling on water. The oil was seen in the pot and a cooking gas canister was also seen on the edge of the boat. Even though the cooking was done on the boat, they seemed to cook with the uncompromising quality of heating power.
Next to the boat, there was another boat on which nobody was. Many hats and sandals were just loaded. This boat was a souvenir shop on the canal.
Anyway, these boats did business for tourists. And they had nothing to do when tourists didn't come to them.
