There are some floating markets which can be visited by a day excursion from Bangkok. According to a guidebook written in English, all of them have become touristic. It is said they lost a function as a market for local people already. And they have been changed to tourist attractions. On the other hand, such a thing is not written in a Japanese guidebook.
When I travel abroad, I usually bring two guidebooks. One is written in English and the other is written in Japanese. And the expository writings are often different from each other. And my impressions were often similar to what was written in the English guidebook from my experience.
Because the English guidebook said that Damnoen Saduak Floating Market was enough touristic, it is said this market was built to preserve the tradition, I came to this market without any special expectations. No matter how it looks like a tourist attraction, the floating markets are uncommon in Japan.
Not so many tourists were there as much as I thought in Damnoen Saduak Floating Market when I arrived. And the canal was not occupied by boats which sold goods. A tranquil atmosphere wafted there. It seemed to be a busy tourist attraction.
