In the precinct of Hasedera, there were so many small Buddha statues lined up in a corner of the Buddhist temple. Each one of them was holding a sacred gem in his or her hand carefully. Where were all these people going?

In an essay by Ramo Nakajima, there is a story about seeing a small feudal lord's procession in a hallucination. If a small feudal lord's procession were real, it would look like this photo. If you think "small daimyo procession" is quite a unique hallucination, this image seems to have sprung up in many writers.

It appears in the stories of Yasutaka Tsutsui and in the essays of Sion Miura. Some of them seem to appear in old stories as well. For Japanese people, a small procession of feudal lords may be a quite familiar non-reality.
