There was a group of people doing tai chi early in the morning at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall

A crowd had gathered in the corridor of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. It seemed like the perfect place to come together for group exercise. When I arrived early in the morning, many people were already there — most of them elderly. Young people were noticeably absent. Perhaps the younger generation prefers to exercise alone, each in their own way. In some ways, this place reminded me of the local parks in Japan where senior citizens gather to do radio calisthenics in the early hours. There too, it’s mostly the elderly who show up.

In front of the main entrance of the memorial hall, another group was practicing tai chi. At one point, they all raised their arms to form circular shapes above their heads — as if slowly sculpting silence with their hands.
