The two sides of Dihua Street in Taipei are lined with stores. The store in the photo is one of them. The name “Mang An Tang” may give the impression that all products are sold at low prices. However, the store's imposing appearance did not give the impression that it was selling cheap goods. The walls were neatly lined with products, and there was even a sense of calm and luxury about the place.
When one thinks of Taiwan, one of the most popular souvenirs is crow's feet. At this store, too, they were sold side by side with dried fruits. The shiny wrapping was a testament to the careful care taken with each item.
A woman on a motorcycle came to the front of the store as I was idly looking around from outside. She stopped her bike and stood astride it, staring at the interior of the store. She looked more like she was looking for someone than a shopper. There was a hint of a definite purpose in her gaze. But I couldn't make out anything more than that.
