A magnificent paifang stood at the entrance of the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Just in front of me were people with umbrellas who were also going to visit the museum, and I could see the museum building beyond the paifang. The building houses the treasures of successive Chinese dynasties. It is no exaggeration to say that thousands of years are stored in this building. It was difficult for me to suppress my excitement at the opportunity to see these timeless treasures.
When I looked up at the paifang, I saw that the inscription on the plaque read, "Power is for the people." It is said Sun Yat-sen was fond of quoting from the Book of Rites.
