Walking through the old town of Panauti, I saw an older man sitting in front of a roadside Hindu altar. He was a man wearing a traditional hat and had a deeply wrinkled face. He had a box and an umbrella beside him, so he seemed to be resting in this spot.
In Japan, not many people would sit with their backs to a small shrine on the side of the road. I guess it's because I feel it's a bit of a punishment, right? But here in Panauti, the man in the photo was sitting with his back to the altar. Not only this man, but many people in Nepal are resting in front of the altar. There are many gods here and there, and if you stand facing a god, you will naturally stand with your back to one of them, so maybe he didn't mind.
