The old town of Panauti is located at the confluence of the Rosi and Punyamati rivers. There seems to be a custom to consider the confluence of rivers as a sacred place, and ancient temples stand at the confluence. Panauti was located on the ancient salt trade route between Tibet and India, and although small, it is a town with a long history.
As I stood on a bridge near the confluence in the old town, I saw a boy on a float floating downstream. He looked very happy. But if he didn't have a good place to stop, he would go down the river wherever he wanted to go. If he was not good, he may flow across the border to India.
