Like other temples in Taiwan, the Temple of Avalokitesvara here in Tainan has several altars. I think each of them enshrines a different deity, but of course, I have no idea who is enshrined where. All I know is that there are altars. That was all right. I came here as a tourist, and it was enough for me to feel some kind of religious atmosphere.
A woman was sitting on a chair in front of one of the altars. She was holding what looked like scripture in both hands, so it appeared that she was reading it. Most people who come to the altar kneel to pray, but this woman did not seem to intend to do so. She was not holding incense sticks, which everyone else was holding. She was holding the scripture in both hands with her back straight as if she was studying at her study desk.
