It was the time of the Sanja Festival. The precincts of Senso-ji Temple were crowded, and many people were parading along the approach leading to the Hozo-mon Gate. A man in a wig was walking through the crowd with a large fan, looking like a character in a period drama. Next to him walked another man who looked like he was in a period drama. They may have been a member of a popular theater troupe. Period clothing goes well with a traditional festival.
The fan the man was holding had the word "Festival" written on it in large letters. I knew that without being told. This day was the Sanja Festival. Nevertheless, when I looked at the fan again, I wondered why it was that, together with the clothes that made me look like a character in a period drama, it made me feel more festive.
