From the ferry dock, at sea level, to the entrance of the Elephanta Caves, a long stretch of steep stairs awaited. This was the main path, the one that nearly all visitors took. Along the way, small eateries dotted the route, while rows of souvenir stalls lined the sides, creating a distinctly tourist-friendly atmosphere.
Ordinarily, there would have been nothing to shield travelers from the blazing sun overhead. But the vendors had come up with a simple yet effective solution—blue plastic sheets, stretched across their stalls, forming an improvised canopy.
Thanks to this, the climb became significantly more bearable, offering much-needed shade. For visitors, it was a welcome relief, but for the vendors who spent their entire day here, protection from the heat was a matter of survival.
Under this makeshift blue sky, everything took on a surreal hue. The stairs, the people climbing them—all bathed in a soft, ethereal blue glow. Amid this dreamlike setting, a young girl darted through the stalls, her shyness apparent as she played just out of reach. Her entire figure, like the world around her, was wrapped in a delicate, translucent blue, as if momentarily caught between reality and illusion.
