Leaving Bogyoke Aung San Market, I came to Phaya Lan Station just behind the market. This is one of the stations on the Yangon Circular Railway and the closest station to downtown Yangon. However, in spite of such a location, the station was old and dilapidated. If it were in Japan, it would be the first station to be redeveloped, but here, it looked like it has been neglected for decades.
I also visited this station 8 years ago. The small dining room on the platform where the station master treated me a cup of tea 8 years ago has disappeared without a trace, and a shop like a convenience store on the platform has replaced it. It had appeared on the edge.
On the other hand, to the people waiting, it looked the same as before. They were still sitting on old benches, waiting for the train to arrive. Eight years ago, I was not sure if everyone was waiting for the train or not. Some of them seemed to be just resting on the benches under the big roof. Among them were the boy and girl in the picture.
