I was close to reaching the main shrine of Kotohira-gu
I've been walking uphill for a long time now. This is the path that everyone who wants to visit Kotohira-gu must take. Finally, I was near the main shrine of Kotohira-gu.
But there was another steep staircase in front of me, and I looked up at the top of the stairs. I looked up and saw a torii gate at the top of the stairs. This was the last torii gate on the approach to the main shrine. Or rather, I had hoped it would be the last torii gate, because I had assumed it would be the last torii gate. When I passed through the gate, I hoped that the main shrine would be there. When I thought that, I felt like I had already arrived before I started climbing the stairs.
