The building in the photo is the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo. Designed by Kenzo Tange, this skyscraper was completed in 1990, and at one time it was the tallest building in Japan. However, now I wonder if the Tokyo Metropolitan Government must have such a tall building. It seems to me that the building is unnecessarily huge.
Regardless of whether the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building is unnecessarily large or not, every time I see this building, I feel that there was a surplus of money during the bubble economy. The current Tokyo metropolitan government does not have the vitality to build such a huge structure and may not have the financial strength to do so. Will there ever be another economic boom in Tokyo?
