There was a water place on the side of the road in Kolkata. They are not small ones that thirsty people use to quench their thirst, but large ones that look like little public baths. There were many men washing their bodies there after a day's work.
The man in the photo was one of them. He was in the middle of washing himself, so his body was covered with foam. When he noticed that I was pointing my lens at him, he smiled and posed for me while covered in foam.
Unlike Japan, there are no public bathhouses in Kolkata. There is no such thing as a Roman thermae or a hammam like those found in Islamic cultures in India. Therefore, people wash at roadside watering places or in rivers if there are rivers nearby. Of course, there is no hot water in such places, only water showers. Because of the warm climate, they don't mind if there is no hot water.
