The houses in the village I arrived at by Dalah were all shabby, like shacks, and I could understand why people call this area the favela of Yangon. The central area of Yangon has been developed and cleaned up as a result of a large amount of money invested, but this village seems to have been left behind in this trend.
Perhaps as a sign of the trickle-down effect of Myanmar's economic development, some houses in the village without electricity have solar panels installed on their roofs. People in such houses may be watching TV, charging their phones, and enjoying the hand-me-downs of development.
As I walked, I came to the house in the photo. Unfortunately, this house did not have solar panels. Instead, there was a shirtless man sitting on the front porch. He was on one knee with his hand on top of his head, looking ashen. While the other men in the village were working somewhere, this man seemed to have no job. The man's mood seemed to narrow his vision, and he didn't seem to notice me standing in front of his house at all.
