I came to the Urakami Cathedral. It was originally built in 1877 after the Meiji Restoration. Many dwellers in this area were Christian and they hid their religious faith for some hundred years because the Tokugawa shogunate promulgated Anti-Christian Edicts. And it was after the Meiji Restoration to become open.
When I came here, a mass was just held in the cathedral. I could see some veiled women inside. There was a statue of Jesus Christ at the end of the central nave. And it was lighted.
