Of course, there are modern supermarkets, but the old-fashioned markets are still alive and well and bustling with activity. The Shuixian Temple Market is a good example of this, with many locals visiting the market to buy foodstuffs. The entire market was filled with the enthusiasm of an Asian market, and all the stores were bustling with activity. This energy made me think, “This is what an Asian market should be like."
In a corner of the market, there was a corner where several tables were laid out. A woman was sitting there, enjoying a light meal. On the table was a chopstick rest filled with disposable chopsticks, reminding me of a familiar Japanese scene.
Behind the woman, however, were piles of plastic baskets, creating the atmosphere of some sort of storage place. The contrast between the haphazardly stacked baskets and the quiet figure of the woman eating a light meal seemed to create a strange harmony in the chaos of the market. I was struck by this scene of everyday life in a corner of the market.
