The village of Maligcong was densely packed with tin-roofed houses. The village, built on the bottom of a valley, is a farming village surrounded by terraced rice paddies. However, rice is not the only crop grown in the village. Beans are also grown in the village, and not only in Maligcong. This is because rice can only be grown on flat land, but beans can be grown on slopes. It seems that it is difficult to make a living from terraced rice paddies, even though the scenery is beautiful.
An older woman was working as we walked along a small path running between houses. In front of her were several large colanders. On top of them were beans. She was drying them in the sun.
